Jah Prayzah’s dad dies

News reaching us this morning indicates that one of Zimbawe’s most iconic musician Mukudzeyi “Jah PrayzahMukombe lost his father John Mukombe this morning.

Mr Mukombe was a respected former headmaster. The news was announced by businessman Tinashe Mutarisi who is also a good friend of Jah Prayzah. He announced the following on social media: “It is with a heavy heart that I share the unfortunate news of the passing of Mukudzei Mukombe’s father. Today, we mourn the loss of a remarkable Mr Mukombe a man who has touched our lives in countless ways. We are forever grateful for the love and support you provided Mwendamberi, especially in raising our beloved music superstar @jahprayzer. To Mai Mukombe, jp and the rest of the family may you find comfort in our God’ hands. May his soul find eternal peace. Funeral arrangements will be announced.

Jah Prayzah has become one of 21st century Zimbabwe’s most recognized faces and a cultural icon especially since the death of Oliver Mtukudzi.

He has been open about his life growing up including granting interviews to journalists with his mum and dad.

In an old Father’s day message on social media Jah Prayzah said about his dad, “Dad
You raised us to become the men we are today. We are forever indebted to you for the wisdom, principles and life lessons that you have imparted to us. Thank you for being an exemplary father, and for being the family’s moral compass and pillar of strength. WeNondo, Chihombe, I salute you. Happy Father’s Day Baba”
It is said the musician was expected to join the academic field like his dad but he chose a different path as a musician inspired by one of his teachers who taught him to play mbira.

Manager Keen Mushapaidze was unreachable for comment at the time of writing. But sources close to Mukudzeyi confirmed the musician is mourning his dad.
