Today Zimbabwe and the rest of the world observe and commemorate the role of education in creating lasting peace.
This year, the theme for the International Day of Education is EDUCATION FOR LASTING PEACE, stressing on the fact that education is an instrument and strategy that is needed in attaining viable peace and development in the world.
“Education is a powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” – Nelson Mandela.
All across the world education is a fundamental right and in Zimbabwe section 75 of the Constitutional Law contends with the ideology. Making education a veritable tool for fostering peace and unity in the world as it presents opportunities to advocate for change.
This latent will however shrivel on the liana as war, turmoil and conflict within communities, between nations or groups pose a threat to our collective being, peaceful cohabitation and development of the world through education as no one will be interested in investing in the system.
Joining in the commemoration, Women Coalition of Zimbabwe posted on X, “Today, let’s reaffirm our commitment to promoting inclusive and equitable learning opportunities for all. Knowledge is a powerful force for positive change”.
Education is an imperative human right. It is the institute of economies, cultures, and individual prospective that empowers minds, breaks barriers and shapes a brighter future all together.
The country is currently working on the Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) of providing universal and free education to all students by 2030. The concept seeks to ensure comprehensive and unbiased quality education and promotion of lifelong learning opportunities.
As the nation strives for a free education system as a future investment, Legal Resource Foundation on X wrote; ” by investing in education, we invest in creating a world filled with empathy, tolerance, and mutual respect thereby promoting peace and global understanding.
When a child is educated, not only does it change the current situation, it jump starts oneself for good installing peaceful thinking. Despite facing challenges in the education sector, teachers remain indefinite role models, guardians and influencers to learners.
Education is impetus in cinching everyone learns, grows and thrives in a more peaceful world so as to overcome all challenges, opening a route to hope and harmony.
