The Harare magistrate court today 30 January 2024 freed opposition politician Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole after nearly 600 days of pre-trial detention on charges of inciting public violence in 2022.
On Tuesday, a Harare magistrate convicted them of inciting public violence but gave them a suspended two-year sentence because they had already spent so long in jail.
When asked when Sikhala was going home, his lawyer, Harrison Nkomo, told journalists outside the court. “He is now a free man. He is going to come out today”.
“We are not resting. What we want is an acquittal,” he said.
