Ronwen Williams was the hero as South Africa edged out Cape verde 2-1 in a tense penalty shootout to reach the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals . The Bafana Bafana goalkeeper saved four spot-kicks in a dramatic climax in Yamoussoukro as his nation booked a last-four date with Nigeria.

The game against Cape Verde ended goalless during regulation time, Williams saved four of the  Blue Sharks penalties to send his side through to the next round.

South Africa and Cape Verde  struggled to get the better of each other during regulation time.

South Africa will face Nigeria on Wednesday.
