After having been beaten to a pulp on allegations that she was having an affair with a married man Chenai (not real name) says she is alive but ran for her life and went into hiding at her relatives place to protect herself from the mob which attacked her on the 1st of February.
Following on a lead from a reliable source, Zimba Wave was able to locate her. As she re-lives the gruesome attack that threatened her life, Chenai is still shocked that her attackers did not give her a chance to share her own side of the story.
Chenai who is married says when the gang got to her in-laws house at which she resides Zeripah and Natasha were the 1st to enter the house and introduced themselves to the victims brother-in-law and made their claim that she was involved with Zeripah’s husband. The accused instigator Zeripah did not want to hear anything Chenai had to say and when she asked for proof her brother-in-law who was present at the time was shown a picture of her in the same vicinity as the instigator’s husband though not together or holding hands or showing any sign that they were together.
She went on to say that after tonnes of name calling, slander and defamation more members of the gang entered the house and said “h*** haripihwe mukana wekudeera ngarirohwe, ngatiitei zvatafambira tibve pano” and that is how the attack started with Natasha getting up from where she was seated, removed her hair bonnet and started pulling her hair.
When the brother-in-law tried to intervene, Chenai said he was pulled away by the gang and tore his t-shirt while pushing him away. She was beaten while in the house then Fortunate said they should take the matter outside. That is when the recording of the video circulating on social media started.
In a post on X by ZRP, 18 year old Mitchel Kariwo, has been arrested in connection with the case. Police are appealing for leads as to the whereabouts of Natasha Kanduza, Zeripah Kanduza, Fortunate Tembo and another suspect only identified as Ollene.
Making headlines for the wrong reasons, Chenai’s story will serve as a lesson to women in today’s society that domestic issues are not solved by violence. Many at times getting more information about someone or an issue is better than reaching a conclusion before getting enough facts.
The traumatized Chenai who still has blood shot eyes will be appearing in court tomorrow. At the time Zimba Wave got to her place of residence a family member of one of the gang members was leaving after she had gone to plead on behalf of the offender.Â
Chenai however says she can not forgive the offenders because she is now living in fear and has moved to a relatives place because of fear, stigma and also the fact that neighbors saw her naked and she can not face them.
