A 28 year old man, Promise Kadeu was sentenced to 48 months imprisonment by a Mutare Magistrate on a charge of theft of trust property.
The brief facts are that on the 14th of October 2023, the accused person received USD875 cash from the complainant for the purpose of supplying roofing timber to the complainant for the purpose of supplying roofing timber to the complainant. He further received USD275 cash on the 17th of December 2023 after he had called the complainant and informed him that the timber was ready and he needed a further payment to cater for transport. The accused person never supplied the timber prompting the complainant to report the matter to the Police leading to the accused person’s arrest. The total value lost was USD1 150 and nothing was recovered.
The accused person was sentenced to 48 months imprisonment of which 12 months were suspended for 5 years. He will serve 36 months effective.
