Harare, August 1, 2024 – The Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) has commenced the application process for a work permit for newly appointed Warriors coach, Michael Nees. Nees, who is currently in Germany, is expected to arrive in Harare before the end of the month to take up his position ahead of the Afcon qualifiers in September.
In an exclusive interview with The Page, Nees revealed that he is unable to give interviews until the work permit process is complete. “I appreciate your interest, but I cannot say anything until Zifa advises that the process is complete,” he said.
Zifa CEO, Yvonne Manwa, confirmed that the application process has begun. “Work is in progress to secure the paperwork for the coach to begin work. It’s a requirement for expatriates to have a work permit,” she said.
Nees will have the task of selecting his assistants from a pool of local coaches, with the technical committee considering his ability to develop coaches and playing curricula as a key factor in his appointment.
The announcement comes as Zifa finalizes its new technical team, with the assistants and coach of the Mighty Warriors expected to be revealed today.
