In a developing case,police have arrested a 22 year old Masvingo man who is being accused of contravening Section 5(1)(a)(ii) of the Exchange Control Act Chapter 22:05,as read with Section 4(1)(a) of the Exchange Regulations SI 109 of 1996 as amended by Section 2 of the Statutory Instrument 122A of 2017 and Section 3 and 4(2) of SI 245 of 2018 for “dealing in currency”.It is alleged that he approached police officers with the intention of exchanging foreign currency wherein he was handed USD 60 and gave the police officers a sum of ZAR1100 in return.It is then that the police officers identified themselves and he was arrested.The police recovered ZAR2 800 from the accused.He is currently remanded in custody till Thursday 8 August 2024 on those charges.
