Seasoned journalist Hector Murombedzi, who died in Harare on Monday, has been described as humble and hardworking broadcaster.
Workmates, friends and relatives converged at Murombedzi’s family home in Warren Park, Harare this Tuesday to pay their last respects.
Murombedzi died at Suburban hospital in Harare on Monday and will be greatly missed not just by his immediate family members, but his neighbourhood as well.
“He was a loving father. We have always been friends and now that he has gone, we don’t know what life will be,” a neighbour said.
Another added, “We have lost a good neighbour. We lived well and now that he has gone, there is a huge gape left.”
Workmates described Murombedzi as a humble colleague who was eager to learn, adding that he has left huge gap which will be difficult to fill at the national broadcaster, ZBC.
“Hector was a hardworking guy. He was humble and eager to learn. As ZBC, we have been robbed of a hardworker and team player,” veteran broadcaster, James Gora said.
Others who worked with him said Hector was humble and resourceful.
Murombedzi joined the ZBC in 1997 as a cameraperson before he was assigned to the Radio News in English desk as a sub-editor.
Murombedzi went on to join the Reporters’ Pool where he was appointed Mashonaland Central Province Bureau Chief.
He retraced his footsteps to the Radio News Desk as Sub-Editor, a position he held until his death.
Mourners are gathered at House Number 5, 27th Crescent, Warren Park 1, Harare.
Murombedzi is survived by his wife Joyce and two children.
Burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
