Afro-fusion is a music that speaks to many in Africa as it is a combination of African musical styles and a touch of contemporary. I was fortunate to talk to David Hondoyedzomba about his journey as an Afro-fusion musician who diversified from perfomance live industry to a recording artist.
“I am HD a.k.a David Hondoyedzomba and backed by an 8 piece band, i’d like to think i  have a  breathtaking variety of tempos, beats, styles and raw onstage energy with percussion-smooth rhythm section, smooth guitars, and soulful vocals all fuse effortlessly to intertwine jazz, jit, funk, hip-hop, reggae, afrobeat and afro-soul influences  founded in 1997 back in my  hometown Bindura”, say HD as he jovially introduces himself.
Inspired by his late father who was a guitar player and choir conductor, HD a gifted artist who is also a music specialist at ZDF has managed to participate, perform and win several competitions since the launch of his musical career. He says his “strength and reputation is in my live performance. I thrive in a festive atmosphere and i have earned a well deserved reputation for getting crowds”.
The talented Afro-fusion musician goes on to say that his hopes for his music are to become a household name in Zimbabwe and internationally. He also wishes to raise the name of his hometown Bindura high.
Though he is faced with financial and team  building challenges, HD has a recording label “Kings Studio” situated at 95  baines avenue. He however says, “its been difficult to find the right personnel for HD and the Blackways Team.
HD who has shared the stage with the likes of Jah Prayzah and Freeman HKD among other artists says 2024 has a lot of shows lined up ranging from corporate bookings, individuals shows and entertainment industry. For 2024 HD and the Blackways Team are set to tour all provinces of Zimbabwe to meet with his fans.
HD and the Blackways Team will be launching a new album in April but before that, they will release a single with Progress Chipfumo. Tonight they will be performing at a Cervical Cancer Awareness campaign, Dinner and Webinar at Bronte Hotel.
